What is this?
You could read this as a public journal of an ordinary life. The writings of a British woman in her late forties living in a cabin in New York's Catskills, raising a now-grown son, rebuilding after losing what she thought would be a lifelong corporate career.
But that's only part of the story.
This is really a chronicle of becoming. Of learning to navigate a future with no fixed career, no fixed destination and very little certainty, accompanied by a growing cohort of materials, making practices and more-than-human companions: textiles, paper, a dog, deer, trees, weather and, increasingly, my AI collaborators.
I didn't set out to become obsessed with textiles. They found me after I lost my job. What began as tentative sewing slowly became a way of thinking. Today, material culture, making and the ideas that surround them, from philosophy and psychology to neuroscience, shape how I understand creativity, care, identity and change.
Most of the posts here begin with something small: a dropped stitch, a half-finished garment, a piece of cloth, a conversation around a table. They rarely stay there.
If you'd like to follow along, you're warmly invited. We'll see what I'm making, what the materials seem to be making of me, and where that conversation leads.
